    • The University of Delhi is the premier university of the country and is known for its high standards in teaching and research and attracts eminent scholars to its faculty.
    • It was established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly.

UNIVERSITY OF DELHI CAMPUS:

    • The Campus of Open Learning through its School of Open Learning (SOL) at the University of Delhi currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a limited number of subjects in the Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce.
    • The campus is now spread across 69 acres of green, hilly terrain and its buildings blend attractively with the natural surroundings.
    • The various departments are located in the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Inter-disciplinary & Applied Sciences. S.P. Jain Centre for Management Studies is also located at the South Delhi Campus.
    • These courses are taught via traditional ‘correspondence teaching’ techniques involving the use of print media and some limited tutorial teaching.

    • Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi was established in 1969.
    • It is one of the most prestigious universities across the country. JNU is basically a research oriented university.

    • Manipal University is a name to remember, not just across the length and breadth of India, but worldwide. The fact that students from 52 countries are studying here is a testimony to this fame.
    • In 1953, he set up Kasturba Medical College, the first private medical college in the voluntary sector. And, with that began the story of Manipal University.     • The University of Mumbai (known earlier as University of Bombay) is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It was established in 1857 consequent upon “Wood’s Education Dispatch”, and it is one amongst the first three Universities in India.

    • Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh was established in 1877 as Muhammadan Anglo    Oriental College in Aligarh by Sir Syed.
    • The Aligarh Muslim University has a campus spread over 467.6 hectares of land in the city of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
    • The University draws students from all states in India and from different countries, especially Africa, West Asia and Southeast Asia. In some courses, seats are reserved for students from SAARC and Commonwealth Countries. The university is open to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion or gender. It ranks 8th among the top 20 research universities in India.
    • In 1877, Sir Syed founded the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College in Aligarh and patterned the college after Oxford and Cambridge universities that he had visited on a trip to England.
    • His objective was to build a college in tune with the British education system but without compromising its Islamic values. Sir Syed’s son, Syed Mahmood, who was an alumnus of Cambridge prepared a proposal for an independent university to the â??Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College Fund Committeeâ?? upon his return from England in 1872.
    • This proposal was adopted and subsequently modified. Syed Mahmood continued to work along with his father in founding the college.
    • It was one of the first purely residential educational institutions set up either by the government or the public in India.

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION :

    • AMU has been at the forefront of the development of management education in India.
    • Efforts were initiated in 1965 and a one-year Diploma in Business Administration was started under the aegis of the Department of Commerce.
    • In 1969, it was replaced by a three-year part-time Diploma Program in Business Management (DBM), which was converted in a part-time, three-year program leading to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1972. In the same year, a separate Department of Business Administration was created.
    • The three year part-time MBA program was further upgraded into two year full-time MBA in 1976.
    • The department also launched one Post Graduate (Full Time) Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance 2010. Two part-time, P.G. diploma courses, one each in Marketing Management and Personnel Management, were introduced in 1984.
    • The Master of Business Administration (International Business) program, introduced in 1993. Regular Ph.D. programs in Business Administration were also started along-with the creation of the Department.
    • Apart from all these degree and diploma courses, PhD in Business Administration through distance learning mode is also offered in collaboration with All India Management Association (AIMA) executives, managers, central & state government and military personnel etc. This program has received an overwhelming response.
